So I bought that 94 escort from the time I asked oppo.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I fixed the alternator and a gas leak. I also replaced plugs and wires. I got some vacuum leaks, I’ll fix those...but what to do about these combustion chambers? I stuck a boroscope and found what are in the pics above.

A blown head gasket works wonders! :P
I kid... sorta. Water does do amazing things. The trick is to allow only a little bit into the cylinders at a time, and not hydrolock it.

An old mechanic friend of mine recommend brake fluid. He said to get the engine up to temp and pour it into the carburetor until the engine dies. Then let it sit for 20 mins. Ater that, get it started and it’s Italian tune up time. Drive the hell out of it. It will smoke a lot. I only ever tried it once on a Grand Wagoneer. Worked I guess.
All that said, these days I would probably just inject some Seafoam into the intake.

Cool hack—- rather than spend ~$10/8oz on seafoam, just go find a gas station that sells E85 (85% ethanol) and for a couple of dollars/gallon, spike your fuel tank with 3-4 gallons of ethanol. It’ll clean your system right up!
And before people start hyperventilating about adding excess alcohols to your fuel, go read the MSDS for seafoam (spoiler: seafoam is just alcohols)..
